Well, today is bad news

Well, today is bad news day. We're waiting for the pulmonologist to come give us biopsy results, and I'm not optimistic.

Aug. 22nd, 2006

We have the test results, and they're not good.

What we saw in the CT scan and x-rays isn't hardening lung tissue due to pulmonary fibrosis. It's cancer.

It was in all three lung tissue samples and appears to be evenly spread throughout both lungs. We don't have any images showing a mass or a tumor. We don't know where it originated, whether it's anywhere else, or what kind it is. We should be consulting with an oncologist tomorrow.

Tandra took it pretty well. I'm not sure how I'm taking it. I don't know if I'm numb or not. I mean, this did all come on relatively quickly, but today compared to yesterday is not like it's right out of the blue. We knew she was sick. We knew it was serious. I had a feeling it wasn't IPF and I had a feeling it was bad. Maybe all this is is just that it's a different sickness than we thought.

A sickness which, unlike IPF, a fair number of people get. There is a lot of research and money and treatments and support out there for cancer patients, whereas IPF is rare enough that there's not as much out there.

Did you know that those yellow Lance Armstrong LiveStrong bracelets are a buck apiece? I guess that's not bad but I think I'm going to need a lot of them. I thought maybe they'd be cheaper in bulk or something.

Thanks so much for all your support and kind words thus far. It really does mean a lot.
