So I've mentioned before that I live in this old house, right? This big-ass house with a basement ("garden level"), two levels, plus an attic which is an open room the size of the entire house. Anyway, Friday night, Tandra and I were laying in bed talking. Now, in our bedroom, you can really hear the water running through the pipes. There's a small section of the ceiling that's missing and the pipes are exposed, and they're just louder in there anyway. It's very close to the room where the laundry and water heaters are, and near a bathroom. So hearing running water is not out of the ordinary. The guy who lives upstairs works extended hours sometimes too, so hearing him running around upstairs or hearing water running late at night is also not unusual. We're sitting there talking, about midnight, when suddenly the sound of water crossed from our subconscious to our conscious minds. It didn't sound right. Tandra said, "do you hear that?" And I was like, "yeah, what is that?" We look over at the doorway, and there appears to be a small trickle of water running down the wall next to the light switch. "Uh-oh," I said. I opened the bedroom door and in our doorway was this CURTAIN of WATER! It was RAINING in there! There was water pouring out of the ceiling in our doorway, the bathroom doorway, and near the stairway. We found out later that a pipe had broken on the third floor, and when I went upstairs to get the owners, their ground level was raining just as hard as our basement was. It was nuts. But, John came down and shop-vac'ed it all up and there appears to be no damage. It didn't land on our new area rug, it didn't land on the PS2, it didn't land on the computer, the TVS, any electronics, photos, it actually landed on absolutely nothing besides wall and floor. It was about the best location it could have happened. It didn't even land on anything that belonged to the owners. The plumber is a guy who lives right down the street and he came over right away (about 1AM, what a great guy), found the problem and shut it off. So it's handled. It was an interesting night though!
Last night we had the first thunderstorm of the season. I love thunderstorms. They make me feel so peaceful and thoughtful. I stood outside the door under the overhang and just watched it for a while and thought. :-) I love lightning and thunder.
