1. why did you start taking pictures?

Since the first time I saw one, I have wanted to take my own pictures of lightning. I guess that was my first interest in photography. That was years ago though. Just recently (about a year ago) I needed to take closeup pictures of an item to sell it on eBay, and my cruddy little point-and-shoot couldn't focus that closely, so I borrowed the Pentax (my current camera which I never returned but rather bought from the guy). I slowly started shooting and it just kind of crept up on me. I really can't point to a time or day when I suddenly had the passion for it - it grew slowly. It's not something I was born with, but it certainly feels as strong as one of those kinds of passions.

2. what is your favorite kind of music and why?

Trance. There are a lot of reasons. They probably stem back to why I like electronic music. Ever since I was a kid, I've enjoyed music for itself, just music, no singing. Instrumental songs have always been my favorite. I can't count the number of times I'd hear a new song and say to myself, "hey, that sounds pretty good," and then someone starts singing and just completely ruins it. Music is something that I personally appreciate even more without lyrics to tell me what to think of it or how to interpret it. Follow that a few years later with the elation of discovering just how much music was available that *isn't* played on the radio (because radio music is mostly shit). So I wanted good music that wasn't terribly pop-y, but something cool that I could be proud of listening to, and I found electronic music. Trance is just my favorite genre of electronic music.

There are other reasons though. Lots of people think trance (and electronic music in general, but especially trance) is repetitive. And they're right, it is, but there's another way of looking at it - it's structured. It has unwritten rules that it follows. That appeals to me.

Also I like to dance to it when I get the chance.

Plus I just like the way it sounds.

3. what is your biggest regret?

That's a tough one. People who tell you never to have any regrets are full of shit. I don't have many, but I have a couple. I'm not sure I'd want to go into them here though. Let's just say I've made a couple really poor decisions in my life, decisions which will have lifelong effects on myself and on other people. I've done things I wish I hadn't and I've failed to do things I should have.

I don't tend to dwell on it though. I'm alright with where I am in life right now.

4. what's the best advice you've received?

Hell, I don't remember. Odds are, the best advice I've ever received probably went in one ear and out the other because for whatever reason I wasn't open to it at the time. There isn't anyone in my life who is a constant fountain of wisdom - I generally have to come up with my own advice (which I'm not very good at).

5. if you could live anywhere, where would that be?

I've hardly been anywhere, so honestly I have no idea. Somewhere other than here though. Somewhere near the ocean so that the weather is moderated, not deathly hot and deathly cold, both of which happen here. Maybe the pacific northwest or the desert southwest. I know, I said no deathly heat - I'd probably want enough elevation to handle that. Deserts have thunderstorms though, something you rarely get in the NW from what I gather, and if I moved from here, I'd miss the storms.

I definitely wouldn't mind living in the mountains either though, at least for a while.

So yeah, sorry about the vague non-answers for the last three questions. Better than no answers at all though (although that's actually what I had).

Anyone else want to interview me?
