Friday ten

From thefridayfive:

1) who was your favorite band/musican when you were younger?
Younger when? When I was really little it was Michael W Smith because I didn't know any better. After I developed my own musical taste, it was Enya, who is still very close to the top of my list.

2) why?
Her music is just so etheral, so beautiful, the music (not the lyrics) speaks right to my soul. I can't explain it. It's a solace for me.

3) are they still your favorite/one of your favorites?
I believe I've answered that question.

4) what is your favorite of their songs?
Crap... uhhh... Afer Ventus, Tempus Vernum, Orinoco Flow, Lothlorien, River, The Longships, Watermark, Caribbean Blue, Book of Days... I could go on and on.

5) are there any specific lyrics you hold dear?
Not really. For many years I listened to music for the music and didn't pay much attention to the lyrics. So there are really no Enya lyrics that are particularly special to me, which I think is what the question is asking.

From fridayfiver:

1. Do you follow current events? Why/Why not?
No. I generally find that only the bad news gets reported, especially in the local news. It's just depressing, so I avoid it. And I get so frustrated at the powers that be (government, politics, corporate, etc) when I watch national news that I tend to avoid it too. I do get sucked into the occasional episode of the Daily Show though, which I can't really complain about.

2. Where do you get most of your news from?
Usually if something is going on I'll hear about it from a friend or something.

3. Do you believe that the media is biased? Why or why not?
Fuck yeah they are. And they're so good at it that it's hard to know what the real truth is, or even what the media's slant is. One of the reasons I don't watch it.

4. Will you be voting this year?
Don't even ask me that question. I don't want to get into it.

Okay, no, probably not.

5. Describe one political issue that really pushes your button.
It's hard to find one of those because (and this is another reason I ignore the news) I have yet to feel like a national political issue has ever had any effect on my personal existence. They do all this arguing and bitching and backstabbing and whatever else at the top, and what trickles down to me from it? Nothing, as far as I can tell.

I guess you could say that's a political issue that pushes my button. The fact that nothing they do seems to have any effect on my life.
