That's why I figure the cold front that came through here around Thursday or Friday must be an incredibly strong one. Cities in the area have been setting new records for the lowest high temperatures with highs in the mid to upper 70s. The nights have been too cold for shorts. Last night I zipped around in the Miata with the top down for a while and the cool, fresh air was invigorating and refreshing. It's like the lazy, motionless heat that bakes us all summer closes our eyes and makes us lethargic, like a lizard seeking respite from the sun under a rock in the desert. Only when the cooler temperatures prevail do we feel refreshed again, energized, awakened, like I felt last night and have felt for the past few days.
But that usually happens in September or October, not late July. We should be right smack in the middle of the days where the wind feels like a hair dryer or a blast furnace and even the nights are too hot and humid to walk without breaking a sweat. So in addition to my impromptu four day weekend, the weather has also provided me with a bit of a vacation from the usual summer pattern. What a nice oasis it has been.
