My take on the presidential debate:
The very first thing I noticed was the look on Bush's face. He looked very impatient and irritated. His behavior, his tone of voice, his overall vibe was one that followed that kind of theme. Bush looks angry, like he just can't stand to hear himself being criticized. Interesting.
I also thought it was very telling that while Kerry was very poised and followed the debate protocol, Bush kept wanting to interrupt and insert his own little thirty-second I-have-to-get-the-last-word-ins. Seemed very unprofessional. Bush also stammered and hesitated a few times, and didn't write down a single thing during the debate, while Kerry did take notes. All of this just made Bush seem very unprepared, like he was speaking off the cuff. Kerry on the other hand seemed very prepared. Granted, Bush does have the disadvantage of having to campaign while being the President at the same time, but still. You'd think he'd have seemed a little more prepared.
I realize that the first question was directly in regard to 9/11, but I still find it amusing that the first thing out of Bush's mouth was "9/11".
You know what's really funny? After all his talk about Kerry "flip-flopping", his talk about how we have to follow through in Iraq, about how we're doing the right thing and we just have to continue following the plan.... he said "We can change tactics in Iraq, and we will."
I already had a position on the war. I'm really looking forward to the next two debates - the town hall meeting and the one about domestic policy.
Aside from that, it is a gorgeous night outside.
