This thing makes 500hp and weighs just over 3000 lbs - that's about 6.1 pounds per horsepower. That means that the weight this engine has to carry around slows it down about as much as a horse carrying six pounds of cargo.
To give that some perspective, a base model 2006 Corvette has one horsepower to carry around every 8 pounds of weight, and each of my Miata's horsepowers lug around about 14 pounds.
