One gallon apple cider (NOT JUICE)
two oranges, peeled
some amount of brown sugar (just guess)
some amount of butter (just guess)
some amount of cinnamon
a bunch of whole cloves
your favorite spiced rum

dump cider into a large saucepan or stock pot-ish type thing
jam cloves all into the peeled oranges
plonk the oranges into the cider
warm slowly on the stove but don't boil it - get it to like 180 or 200 deg F.
once it's beyond room temperature stir in the cinnamon, brown sugar and butter
enjoy the smell as it goes all over the house
When you're ready to enjoy it, pour a shot or two of spiced rum into a mug and then fill it the rest of the way with cider. There's a small distance between not enough rum and too much so you might have to experiment to get it just right.
